Kelly Meyers, Dance Biography

 

In addition to her lifelong involvement with music, Kelly has studied dance since she was 5 years old. She has an extensive back-ground in training, performing, teaching, and choreographing dance. Her many years of teaching music and dance to young children have made her a highly skilled educator.

Teacher of Dance

Kelly has taught ballet at various dance studios, but has taught most prominently at the Tustin Dance Center for the last 14 years. Kelly continues to offer classroom dance instruction in Ballet 1 - Ballet V and Pre-Pointe - Advanced Pointe classes, and private dance instruction, including her work with Toni Bush, a National Ballroom Dance Champion. Kelly's instruction focuses on improving technical skills, preventing injury, aligning the body properly, artistic expression, and the awareness of individual physicality.

Performing Experience

With an emphasis in ballet, Kelly toured with La Ballet Classique de Paris throughout France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Germany. In 1984, she danced in the opening and closing Olympic ceremonies in Los Angeles, California. Kelly also performed a solo role in Aida at the Performing Arts Center with the Opera Pacific and has done soloist work with the Robert Salas Dance Company. She has performed in many ballets with the Phyllis Cyr Dance Company in Huntington Beach, California and has danced various roles in parades at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Kelly continues to dance today performing original works in numerous church services.

Choreography Experience

Kelly choreographed and co-directed The Nutcracker Ballet for the last two years performed by the Tustin Dance Center dancers. She has also choreographed over 100 individual dances for local dance recitals. Kelly has been commissioned to choreograph for a local country western singing group, a children's dance group performing holiday dances at retirement homes, and local charity programs. She also annually choreographs for award winning, competitive dance teams dancing in local competitions.

Training

While attending University of California, Irvine, Kelly trained extensively with David Allen, Christine Chrestt, Donald McKayle and others. Earlier, she participated in the summer intensive training programs with the San Francisco Ballet, Ballet Westin Aspen, Colorado, and the Boston Ballet School. Kelly trained in classical ballet with Stanley Holden in Los Angeles, California, Richard Adama, in Irvine, California, and Anthony Sellars in Huntington Beach, California.
