The concepts of Semester 1 are quickly reviewed, then we continue to add more notes, more complicated rhythm patterns and generally build on the previous semester activities. We review the Percussion and Brass Wind families and add the String and Woodwind families and the Complete Orchestra through sound, pictures, demonstrations and even hands on experience, we also learn about the life and music of Beethoven, and even play Musical Baseball.

Playing simple musical patterns and songs on the featured instrument from the first session—the glockenspiel—is a central focus this semester. While learning to sing a melody, and then play the pattern on the glockenspiel, we'll delve deeper into the understanding of musical concepts such as piano and forte through orchestra-style music such as the William Tell Overture and Peter and the Wolf. Other new musical concepts are introduced including crescendo and diminuendo, and of course legato and staccato. Music appreciation and understanding continues with a complete introduction to the instruments—and the families in which they're grouped—of the orchestra.

Developmentally appropriate curriculum for parents and children, ages 5 to 7 years.

-        15-week semester, meets once a week

-        One 60-minute class per week, Adult does not attend class

-        Adult may optionally attend entire first class for orientation

-        At-Home Materials:  Children’s Folder with stickers, games bag, and Music At Home Cards, Family Songbook, and Home CD of music from class.
