Kindermusik Young Child Class
Skills Learned

What You'll See Happening in This Class:
Kindermusik for the Young Child provides the essential building blocks for future formal musical training.  In this 2-year, 4-semester curriculum, students explore many facets of the musical experience - speaking, singing, listening, playing instruments, as well as learning about reading and writing music.  As the capstone to the child's Kindermusik journey, Young Child broadens and deepens the child's introduction to the fulfillment and excitement of musicianship.

Provides exposure to other cultures: Each Young Child semester focuses on multicultural music, art and games. Additionally, Young Child introduces favorite children's works, such as Peter and the Wolf, The Nutcracker, and The Magic Flute, so children build an early appreciation of the arts.  Children learn about the rudiments of ballet, jazz and tap dancing as well as explore Mozart and other classical musicians.

Creates a student community: Young Child keeps the same group of children together for two years, creating an incredible student community.

Values group experience before formal lessons: Once a child begins more formal music lessons, the group dynamic disappears. With Young Child, children are able to interact and build social skills.

Includes movement as a key to learning: Movement, which is a central component in Young Child, provides a symbiotic relationship with music and movement and music reinforce learning.  With private music instruction, there is not usually a movement component present, and 5- and 6-year-olds need movement to learn most effectively.

Bridges the gap to private music lessons: At ages 5-7, many children are still not ready for formal music lessons.  Young Child provides a perfect transition before more formal music instruction. Many piano teachers have said they can spot Kindermusik kids right away!
